History - A lineage
For over two thousand years, Yoga remained a philosophy and a practice, a philosophy-practice, guarded as a secret within the borders of the Indian subcontinent. In India itself, only those deemed worthy by their teachers, their Gurus, received initiation into Yoga.
The world received the gift of Yoga from the hands of three masters who, by spreading it, opened it to the greatest number.

Vivekananda introduced Indian philosophy to the West, notably by participating in the Parliament of Religions at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, where his introductory speech on Indian philosophy was a huge success. In 1886, he wrote "Raja Yoga," one of the first English translations of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
Kṛiṣṇamacārya (1888-1989) who trained those who became among the most eminent Yoga teachers in the world: BKS Iyengar , Pattabhi Jois , Indra Devi , his own sons: TKV Desikachar and Sri TK Sribhashyam … but also many Europeans, Yvonne Millerant, Gérard Blitz, François Lorin…

Śivananda (1887-1963) who trained a large number of eminent teachers such as Satyananda , founder of the Bihar School of Yoga who developed the method of yoga nidrâ , Viṣṇudevananda , founder of the international centers of " Sivananda Yoga Vedanta " but also Europeans, the philosopher Mircea Eliade, the philosopher, Lanza del Vasto, Jean Herbert, Maryse Choisy and André Van Lysebeth (1919-2004).
The latter, of Belgian nationality, at the request of Śivananda, created in 1963, barely a month before the death of Swami Śivananda, a French-language magazine "YOGA", then wrote numerous books on Yoga, and trained numerous teachers in France and Belgium.

In partnership with Gérard Blitz, from Antwerp, founder of the "Club Méditerranée", André Van Lysebeth created the European Yoga Union in 1971. The founder of our school, Daniel Sullon, followed André van Lysebeth's classes.
